There isn't much rust close to the window but I get what you are saying. For a car worth about $100 I really don't want to start pulling glass, hopefully I won't live to regret it. This is just another case proving how shitty vinyl tops are. I will rust convert everything that looks suspect. My goal is to have paint that will polish nice, little to no orange peel, decently smooth panels, no noticeable rust after a year, getting 30 mpg, till I get the Olds 350 back in and will put the A/C back in at that point. We will see if any of this works out. Eventually the driver's side floor will need done and I may do a carbon fiber head liner, mine has no material right now. If this turns out at all, the 70S will be next.

Trunk stripped. You can see the corner where I stripped the rust out of the edge of the trunk in the second picture, it hasn't gotten any worse. Next will be the back quarter panels.

This arrived today. The 623 is the small bottle and the 624 is the big bottle. The numbers must indicate size, other look identical.

Driver's side is basically stripped, I will get pics up next week. I am also seriously considering putting on the truck sbc serpentine setup on and getting the A/C working. I have everything but the CS130 alternator, I have the reverse rotation diesel water pump, pulleys, ps pump and can get a 351 Windsor bottom pulley for free. That and the billet adapters are needed. This allows A/C to back on with maybe less drag.

Much less paint. I also treated the ugliness with rust converter.

Got more paint off this last week, I will put up pics tomorrow. I installed a better distributor cap and rotor. It also has the low ohm contact and now discontinued red and white lead Accel Brute Thunder coil. Will see if all the changes planned put me over the hump for mpg.

I found something interesting, Loctite Extend Rust Neutralizer and Plasticote Rust Converter are the exact same product. They smell and look exactly a like, so get whichever one is cheaper in your area.

I will put up pics of my tinning on the driver's side quarter, don't expect Donovan quality or precision. I used Plastikote/Loctite rust neutrilizer then Rust Destroyer primer under the aluminum. Supposed to neutralize and stop rust for 5 years and good till 800 degrees. I used similar thin aluminum behind both doors and you had to look very close to see it, the same treatment, grinding the screw heads nearly flush then Evercoat metal reinforced filler around it this time instead of cheap Bondo. I also brought the serpentine brackets from Larry, expect pics in a few weeks. Rock Auto ran out of the 1/4 smaller Dorman pulley hopefully the Cardone is the same dimension, if not then Summit will get some money.

I can't get Larry to respond... But I guess I'll keep trying, as I have spent money gathering the parts for the serpentine conversion. What pulley are you trying to order?? Dorman 300-200?? If not, could you supply the part#. I'd like to find one under 6.5" in diameter.

The Dorman, according to Rock Auto was 6.48", I believe. My current truck pulley is 6.75". Yeah, 300-200, is the number, a ROP member used it on his 87. Did you buy the last one? :)

Did email Larry? He responded quickly and he sent it out the day after payment. Waiting patiently for it to arrive.

I got a response from Larry last night. Cool.
I did not order the pulley from Rock Auto. I work for Amazon, so I got it from them (employee discount). They are on Ebay also. Let me know what you think when you get them in your hands. Thanks!

I found the pulley on Amazon, will probably order it from there. I will show pics of everything Larry sends. Sounds like the bearing is going in the 12SI currently on my 88, so another reason to go to a CS130. Plus the bigger air pump pulley lined up with alternator under driving it. This alternator needed revved up to charge, supposed to be a Wilson reman 94 amp. I will probably rebuild it and see if it will work the way it should for a spare.

I will do. It may be a bit before I install it. I need a new alternator and belt, both part of the $700 Rock Auto order I need to find money for. My Dorman pulley waiting in the mail. Hopefully it is the diameter they list. Also my puller for the A/C clutch is also there. Pulling the PS pulley seems easy enough, how do you reinstall it?

If you have or buy the power steering pulley tool, it removes, and installs the pulley. There is a groove (like a ring land in a piston), and the tool is like a clam shell, and installs around the groove, and then the stud (tool) tightens against the power steering's pump stud, to reinstall (press) the pulley back on the shaft. I plan to just buy the tool, as it's only like $20.
