I have decided to work within my budget and not go with the 403 build. It will be an iron head, roller cam, Olds 350
I thought that was the direction of your build, using that long list of parts you already had.

We all change directions with our builds. I know I have. My Salon Aero was supposed to be a cheap makeover, now the receipt book is over 2" thick, LOL. I hope your engine exceeds your expectations. (y)

I'm sure my crank is done, will pick it up in a week or 2. I bought these for a very good price on Amazon, now I only will Edelbrock heads with roller springs and MLS head gaskets, if I decide to go that route.

Well nearly $3200 Canadian for the machine shop bill. Of course they forgot to hone fit the rods for the floating pins🤔.

Well, I put in a complaint through PayPal for CK Performance after 81 days. Suddenly I had a response they were waiting on parts. I asked what parts, they said pump parts. They suddenly said it should be done by Friday🤔. Not dropping the claim till I recieve a tracking number that it is on the way.

Talked to Precise Engine, my rods will be honed and done by Noon, supposedly working on them right now. I will grab them first thing Monday.

I got my pistons and rods back, another nearly $150. Supposedly 8 ten thousandths of clearance between the pin and rod. I will take some pics tonight.

Took the 330 internally balanced crank out of the box. The rods fit looks good.

Unfortunately I won't be to get at file fitting the rings and assembling the short block for about another month. I can hardly wait to get back at it. Plenty of Winter left anyways.

So my piston ring filer will be here shortly. I measured one of the file fit rings, only .006" gap! I need .020" or may another .003" top for future boost options and .0025" second and .010" minimum on the oil rails. I measured a couple of crank journals and used a snap gauge and micrometer with the bearings torqued in the main housing and rod. I found .0026" rods and .0028" mains for clearance. I asked for .0022 to .0025" rods and .0025" to .0028", those were Mark's recommendations. They are close enough. The balance shop micro polished the crank after the other shop cut it.

Mark just sent the cam button, Scat balancer, Melling high volume oil pump and AEM wideband. That just leaves push rods, MLS head gaskets and the new Edelbrock heads.I am thinking of .045" with the pistons .003 above deck.

So after another busy week with an emergency heater fuel fill yesterday, I finally got back at measuring and filing cylinder #1 ring gaps. The compression rings were both .006" out of box. The oil rails and corrugated ring was around .025", so no issue. I went slightly more generous on top ring gap at .023" and .025" for the second gap. This is incase the maybe 400 HP/400+ Ft/lbs of torque isn't enough and I want to add something like a torque storm down the line. I am not assembling this until after the spring melt and the humidity goes down. This ring filer was easy to use, just took my time, filed then measure and repeat. I need to buy some more small files to remove the sharp edges, my new set has gone missing. I also picked up a new feeler gauge to replace my worn 25 year old one.

The last of my parts arrived from Cutlassefi for my short block. The Scat balancer, cam button and the Melling high volume oil pump. So that just leaves MLS head gaskets, push rods and heads left to buy when the Edelbrock heads become available. The AEM Wideband will go on when the 5 fr snow bank disappears from around the 1970.

Been plenty of non Oldsmobile activities eating up my time, my Dakota, more of the same for next weekend, my Daughter's Edge, so only minor progress. One more cylinder the rings are filed, debured and ready to install.

Most of the day was wasted working on my Daughter's Edge. I went out at 10 pm to do this, #5 rings are filed!

So I painted the non Stainless 3/8" flange on the full length Chinese Stainless full length headers with VHT high temp aluminum paint to go on this motor. I also finished filing the rings for the rest of the cylinders. We got close to another foot of snow. When that melts and humidity drops, I will start assembling the short block.

So I have got my shop mostly free of water and have the dehumidifier going. I should be able start assembly of the 358 in the next few weeks. Of course rain this weekend. It actually might help thaw the ground. After Amazon fucking around, not sending parts in stock for 2 weeks, the CC507 springs finally showed up. The KYB shocks have been sitting patiently waiting. The rear ride height will get fixed this weekend.
