1976 Cutlass questions. I purchased this car new and want to start the restoration process. Rear trans cross member is made for single exhaust only. Is there a cross member made for dual exhaust that would be a direct fit. 1974 Cutlass perhaps?? If so would an earlier model Cutlass factory dual exhaust system be a direct fit. Will be using factory exhaust manifolds. I have a set of factory dual exhaust manifolds from an earlier model Cutlass that I think are unique to dual exhaust cars. Does anyone make factory reproduction dual exhaust systems? Any preferred brand?

I need to know what used one to look for 1st. I am guessing one from a 74 car is what I need. a 76 car was supposedly available with a 455, which should have had a 400 turbo behind it. My car is a 350, but has bolt holes to move the cross member back. Just guessing but I think the 73/74 cross member and dual exhaust system would fit my 76 car???

1973 & 1974 should work they were pre catalytic convertor cars ... 1975 and newer were single exhaust ( 1 hump crossmember )

Attached are pics of the mounting at the ends of my existing 1976 cross member. Does a 73/74 cross member mount like this. Bolt hole spacing left to right is approximately 51". Left & right side pics. Note the extra set of holes to the rear to accept a longer 400 turbo.

Not super clear pictures of your existing crossmember, but I put a 455 with duals in my '83 Cutlass. This body style never had true duals to my knowledge, just a single to the cat on the passenger side, and then split to duals after that. I just notched the factory crossmember, and it has worked perfectly for 14 years. If this is of interest to you, I'd be happy to provide more detail. Basically cut out a notch, made a filler piece to fill in where I had cut, and then added on a reinforcement on the top to retain full strength. I'd argue this is at least as strong as the factory piece.
