    How would you price this?

Buddy just bought a mid-'70s Cutlass. Exceptionally nice car. Legit ~40k miles, new paint, super clean interior, 350. "Nicest mid-'70s Cutlass around". Needed a bunch of relatively minor stuff, like water pump, exhaust, so he's got some money into it now. It was running rough and missing...

    Insurance

I decided to look at my insurance earlier this year. I have homeowner's, specialty/classic vehicles, and my daily driver. My previous provider seemed ok, but I wasn't thrilled with them. They gave me some grief a year or two ago with my homeowner's, saying they couldn't renew my policy...

    Head liner rear inside panels

To add a little more detail, I have two individuals I use for serious body work and paint at this point. One guy does somewhat-questionable work, is cheap, easy to talk to, and will do it over and over until I'm happy. I take the cars I'm less concerned with to him. I have another guy who...

    Head liner rear inside panels

As I said, I got a bargain 12 years ago along with a bunch of other work, and the rear window repair cost me around $1,500. Body work can be interesting, especially with an old car. Lots of things are different than with new cars, trim retainer posts for example. If you can find someone who...

    Head liner rear inside panels

The window sealant is called butyl I believe. It's petroleum-based, and it's essentially permanent. This seal itself is not leaking. The crap that has accumulated in the channel has deteriorated the finish on the metal around the seal, and this eventually rusted through. The rust has also...

    Head liner rear inside panels

Put another way, if you fix this rust you show in the pictures, but you DON'T fix the source of the leak, this area will just rust again.

    Head liner rear inside panels

It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like this area is receiving exposure to the elements. My guess is that the rear window channel is leaking, and the water is dripping in this area under the dutchman panel. This particular rust that you show...it only happened and is getting...

    Head liner rear inside panels

If you're talking about the rear window, and not the side rear windows, it could be the rear window channel. I had another 1970 GM car, and over the years, the leaves and crap accumulated around the channel and rotted it out. The PO had then jammed a whole bunch of silicone in there, which had...

    82 cutlass help meee plz

So it idles fine? What happens if the engine is warm and you VERY SLOWLY try to bring the revs up? If it idles fine, but backfires when you moderately-quickly open the throttle, it could also be the accelerator pump. This is a part inside the carburetor, and can either be replaced, or the...

after a 20 year break back to work on my 85

A lot of vintage upholstery is still available from certain vendors and shops. Amazingly, certain older and more unusual colors/patterns seem even more available, because no one else is using them up. A shop I use was able to get original 1970 Cadillac fabric recently. I'm guessing there are...

    307 olds excessive blow by

I have Autometer electric gauges on all my cars. I was for some reason never a fan of having an oil line coming into the car, and find routing of wires a lot easier than a nylon line.

    88' Caddy

Just out of curiosity, is there any problem running a transmission that has a lock-up torque converter WITHOUT locking it up? I suppose because it has a top gear steeper than 1:1, there is more mechanical resistance in 4th gear, and so therefore additional potential heat generation/efficiency...

1961 88 Overcharging, with 2 new voltage regulators tried

Sun had all the good machines. I still want one of their distributor testers. You're absolutely right, I figured it out at the time, and it turned out to be a bad negative battery terminal. I have experienced some of the weirdest issues, always related to bad grounds, or other forms of...

    88' Caddy

I'd imagine that the 350 and 403 would be easier to find, they're newer, and probably less in-demand than the 455. The 350 and 403 both have the same deck height as the 307, so they're technically closer to a drop-in swap. The 455 has a taller deck height, so the engine is taller and a little...

1961 88 Overcharging, with 2 new voltage regulators tried

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of a way to TEST a generator/alternator that uses an external voltage regulator, as in, a spin test? Only place I know of is at certain auto parts stores, but they claimed to only test internally-regulated alternators. One of my cars has an external...

    88' Caddy

Others will have a better answer than I will, but it's my understanding that you just need to replace the carb and the distributor. Thing is, if there's nothing wrong with them, it's a somewhat expensive and pointless effort with a 307. You won't get any more power, and your economy might go...

    88' Caddy

Great car, very clean! Looks great in white. I assume that is the factory vinyl top. It's interesting, because I remember '88s having sort of a vinyl insert in the rear "opera window", that made it more of a porthole with vinyl trim around it. Did a quick search, and it seems both kinds...

Love the box Cadillacs. Please do post pics when you can. I still have a soft spot for all those old 307 cars. They were slow, but they were still Olds V8s. Just a reminiscence, but '88 when your car was new was when I was starting to get into cars. I was buying late-'60s to early-'70s...

Big block install in a G body

Your swap makes me happy. Post some more pics if you can. Will have to read back over it and catch what headers you're using. I had the same column shift interference. It's still tight, but I was able to adjust things and make it work. I was much more urgently going for the sleeper approach.
