W codes are usually reserved for Oldsmobile's "Performance enhancing options". Mostly. Very similar to Chevy's "Z" options. Some are no more than an appearance package or option, while some others are actual enhancements. They really WERE hi-po options way back when, but Olds used them for a LONG time, and as performance was diluted, so were the W options. Take a W-40 in 1984. That signifies it as a Hurst/Olds. And with that option, you got a lot of stuff. F codes were used for suspension packages/upgrades.

W-25 Option Package

W-25 was the option code for the ram air hood on non W-30 or W-31 cars. All you got was the ram air package. The W-25 has its own stripe pattern, different from the W-30.

W-26 Option Package

W-26 sports console made in combination with hurst with His-nhers dual gate shifter.

W-27 Option Package

The stock 1970 W-30 rear end is a cast iron 12-bolt posi Type-O with a steel cover and steel axle shaft tubes. The W-27 used a cast aluminum center section and rear cover, with the steel axle tubes. The W-27 rear end was only available as an option from the factory on the W-30, W-31 and W-32.

The W-27 cover (only) was available as a Dealer installed item on the 4-4-2, Cutlass and F-85. In '71 only the W-27 Cover seems to be available for 4-4-2/Cutlass etc. Unknown for '72.

The 1971-2 was a corporate 10-bolt diff with a 10 bolt cover.

W-29 Option Package

The W-29 option is the code for a 442. It was used from 1964-1967 and then again from 1972-1980 or so as the 442 was an option on a Cutlass or F-85. During the 68-71 years the 442 was it's own separate series of cars. If it was used from 1967-1971, it loosely meant the 442 model.
