General Information
Note: The information contained in all of the "Engine Detail" sections should be read before proceeding with modifications, etc., because some information that applies to all engines, or all small blocks or all big blocks, might not be duplicated in every section.
Timing Chain Covers
Major differences are the timing chain covers. One is aluminun and one is cast iron, hence the difference in pan gaskets. Also different timing chain cover seal. Aluminun is a lot bigger than the cast iron one. All vibration dampers will interchange. To be sure, mic the crank, and bore check the damper. Some dampners will have different pulley arrangements for air or steering, depending on the model car they are used on.[ Thanks to Peter Slisz for this information. ]
