Looking for a good set of matched SBO heads. Bought an engine a while back with good potential slowly coming together but it is a bit of a basketcase.

Apparently the person I bought it from either doesn't know their stuff, was smoking some good stuff when they threw it together (I tore down with fresh parts all around anyway, so no big deal), but worst of all, mismatched heads. One is a #6, the other is a #8.

The car is my late papaws, trying to bring it back to life so it's not needed to be high performance just needing it to be durable. So a good set of number 8 heads would be fine in my case. Anyone that has anything that willing to sell please comment back thanks in advance

I have ported, 55cc chamber #6 heads and #8's but I am very far away, across the border in Saskatchewan. Join a site like Classic Oldsmobile, more traffic there and put this in their parts wanted forum for something close by, shipping is expensive. It would be good to find out what pistons are in your motor. I would assume either the 6cc dish or 14cc dish, if stock. It depends what you expect out of your car.

I appreciate you responding any guess what shipping would be roughly for that? If you need an American zip code to figure out what the estimate would be it's going to 42101. Right now I've got a set of number fives that I did a choir locally but finding those like I was originally asking for is becoming a little harder it seems. Not trying to Hot Rod the car just trying to bring it back from the dead because the 307 in it is about had it. Just trying to build it up where it's reasonably dependable have you got enough power for pulling halfway decently and still can get out of its own way. If you know what I mean by that. But thanks for telling me about that place I'll check it out most of my formative years in Oldsmobile stuff was on here and ROP. Not sure if I even remember that site from back in the day honestly, but I'll definitely give it a once-over for sure. But you had to answer your question it's basically going in place of a 307..

Is it in decent running shape otherwise? Yeah, it will be a nice upgrade from a tired 307. A mild cam like a generic 204/214 and new timing set along with gaskets including the neoprene rear main are fine on a good running motor.

Admittedly when I got it it was a little bit of a basket case but it had a very good foundation to start with. The guy I got it from he claimed that a friend of his originally put it together and fell in real bad health and died shortly after but it had mismatched heads one side originally had a number 6 head the other side had a number 8 head. But it was an early High nickel block so lends itself very well to minor Machining to prep for running. Right now me and a buddy that's helping me put it back together we just got to get the heads done and then it's ready to button back up the rest of the way and then it's just a matter of putting it in the wagon. Only thing is frustrating is it's just gone ten times as long as I originally thought it would but trying to minimize any long-term issues with this Engine versus the issues that arose after hastily putting the 307 together last go round. The last time around when I was putting the 307 together for the road for it if it was a part that was used and maybe slightly sketchy but it was still solid I went with it and the only Machining that was done whatsoever was Milling the heads, which bumped up compression through the roof. I don't mind if I end up with high compression relatively speaking on the 350 but I want to make sure the engine over all is well balanced all around and all of the potential weak spots that I ran into with 307 are hardened with new parts..

What pistons are in the 350, small dish? All the Olds 350's through 76 were very good motors from the factory and lasted many miles.

I haven't been on the forum for awhile; been tied up with buying one house, selling another and moving 150 miles. That being said, I have several sets of early heads, as well as other engine parts. I can provide you with cylinder head cores or heads ready to bolt on. If interested, email me direct: [email protected]. I've also been on Classic Olds for over 14 years. Thanks, Bob.
