Build in progress. 455 .060 over, Speed Pro Forged pistons, Erson Hi Flo AH cam, C heads 2.07/1.62 stainless valves, performer intake and a refurbished Qjet as the cherry on top. Going into a 69 Vista Cruiser. This will literally haul ass. At least 6 of them.

It's coming along nicely! I see you degree'd your camshaft. I've "use" to have a degree wheel. I checked two Oldsmobile engines and both were correct. I "lent" the wheel out 20 years ago and never got it back. I use Cloyes timing sets. I always felt it would be the timing set is off, not the camshaft. BTR, Bill Travado has a couple different price ranged sets that he says are spot on. Just curious, did you have to make any corrections to the cam timing? What are the specs on that camshaft, if you don't mind sharing. Thanks, Ken

This is a Cloyes 9 position chain. It degreed at 116 straight up. I contacted Mark Remmel (Cutlassefi) who I bought the cam from and I asked if that was fine or change it. I advanced it 4 deg from there to get the 112 spot on. He said I could go 2 more for better low range but I left it alone at the advertised 112.

Mark is a good guy and very knowledgeable. I bought a set of Mahle coated pistons for one of my 400 E engines. The "prettiest" pistons I've ever bought. He's brought some new products(and needed new life) into the Olds community. A lot of torque in your build.

Nice build. What are the cam specs, and type of lifters did you use?

That Cloyes 9 way billet is a nice set, much nicer fitting than the old Cloyes Street roller set which they discontinued, a good thing. Interesting you didn't use Erson lifters. My custom cam from Mark degreed bang on and even the floppy Cloyes Street roller set was spot on, a few have found those sets not so accurate.

I originally was going to use a very low mileage TQ20 cam that came out of the motor. It only had 1000 or so miles on it before it developed a knock and the guy pulled it to replace it with one of my built shortblocks. Long story short the parts were already bought and ended up changing the cam because it wasn't right for the wagon it was going in. The buget was a little tight as I already gave the man a quote and I typically don't ask for more after the fact. The additional cam cost came.out of my pocket to make it better for his application.

My cam is very close to the TQ 20, 214/214 .472/.472 instead .478/.478 and 110LSA instead of a 111LSA. Very mild for a 455.
