Its nice to see some familar Avatars and Handles. The only Oldsmobile left in our stable is pops 1983 Custom Cruiser.

Hope all is well!

Welcome back! One Olds is better than no Olds, I gained a 70S, so it all equals out.

An unfortunate sign of the times. Our Challenger GT AWD with it's 305 hp V6 is faster than either of my Olds with 10 more mpg. The stock 5.3's sucked and the 6L I drove was no hell. Of course the stock truck air intake tract is restrictive as hell and no low end torque in a heavy truck blows. The Gen 5 V8 is a different story. No LS for ths guy, ever.

My mild 5.3 I stuck in the S10 Eightup was so kind to bring me makes 428hp and 397ftlbs. In a 2700lb truck she is no slouch.

I believe you in the power department, they just feel so soft below 4000 rpm. I sure miss my Olds powered 4x4, dam shorted out block heater. It was stronger down low than stock 5.3 powered trucks, idle to it's 4200 rpm shift points. Remember, same trans, gearing and my 94 4x4 had slightly taller tires. Just a 8.5 to 1 Olds 350 with stock 5A 307 heads, lousy Performer cam, shorty headers and 2.25" dual exhaust. I did open up the air box but the 500 cfm TBI and lousy sbc swirl port tune sucked. Too bad the 454 TBI had issues, it burned the tires and really pulled hard but had sensor issues and really stiff throttle. The LS truck was better on gas but a proper tune would have brought them close. The big thing about LS motors is cheap, everywhere, not worn out and can take boost but big time unoriginal and not my style. A 2700 pound truck would feel massively better than a 5000 to 6000 pound truck, even with a stock 5.3.

I scored a 150k crusty plow truck 6.0 for a song. The only thing showing any wear was the cam bearings. The cylinders, main and rod bearings crank and piston skirts all looked brand new. Even had cross hatch in all the cylinders.. can't say the same for any old iron pig regardless of what brand.

The last 76 Olds 350, currently in my 70S but with fresh #6 heads, the original #8 heads with factory shim head gaskets had 140 to 142 psi all eight cylinders with the compression robbing Performer cam and 20 psi hot idle in gear and 45 to 50 psi at cruise with 5W30 oil, cost $120. The 76 Olds 350 I pulled for my truck had garbage coolant and was still nearly as nice inside after I removed the eaten through shim gaskets, paid $50 for the whole car. Try that with any stock mid 70's sbc, good luck. Unfortunately they are getting harder to find, I need to hoard a couple more 350 blocks.

Beeter, everything you ever get is crusty and purchased for next to nothing! :) But you always seem to fix it. Mostly.
