    My 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass S

I hope that you know about replacing the plastic check balls in the valve body with steel ones. For some reason the one for reverse wears down to the size of a bb and causes a loss of pressure and eventually a loss of Reverse.

Looks like that intake may need to be machined some to get it to set down on the heads better.

I would pull that rear main cap and do some smoothing/blending in the cavity that is directly below where the oil pump mounts. I'll see if I can find a pic of how a "ported" one looks, I cut the mounting flange off of an old oil pump and bolt it to the rear main cap, to use as a guide.

If you wet sand that and clear it, it would look pretty nice.

When I do an intake, I use studs to line up the gaskets. I put the studs in one side, glue the gasket to the head, set the intake on for some weight; then remove the intake, put the studs in the other side, glue the gasket, set the intake back on and while it's drying I put the intake bolts in...

Seeking Assistance / Fuel Gauge Inoperative

After re-reading your original post, I realized that when you grounded the male end, you basically were just observing an open circuit at the female end, which is how you would check the gauge. So, yes, I would say that you need a new sending unit.

Seeking Assistance / Fuel Gauge Inoperative

Grounding the male end should have NO effect on the gauge reading, as it's not connected to any wiring in the car. Grounding the female end should give a "full" reading and beyond; disconnecting the plug, as you did, should yield an "empty" reading and beyond, meaning off of the normal range of...

SS rims VS plain 1982 rims

You might ask them to "index" the wheels, one wheel stud at a time, to see if it takes some of the out of round out. By that I mean to remove the wheel, rotate it one wheel stud and put it back on. Sometimes that helps.

    Oil Gets Dirty fast

Well, if it's using a quart ~every 500 miles, it's got to be going somewhere. Are you running any PCV system?

    Oil Gets Dirty fast

I would do a "leak down" to see if you have any blow-by passed your rings. That would account for the increase in "compression" (cranking pressure), as the oil would seal the rings better during a compression test. You didn't mention if it used any oil in between changes or if there is any smoke...

That's OK; his 0.030" pistons measure 0.0255" over!

Frost plug leaks coolant / 307

There are the 3 on each side as you stated, plus 2 smaller ones in each cylinder head. Olds doe not use any in the front or rear of the block, for the cooling system. There is one at the back of the camshaft tunnel, which gets oiled, so no corrosion there and a small one on the left side in the...

Frost plug leaks coolant / 307

Where did the car come from? I worked at a gas station and for an Olds dealer in Buffalo, NY years ago and never had to change any freeze plugs. I moved to South Florida and it's an all to common issue. Difference: the water down here sucks. Up North the water was clear and clean. Down here...

    1978 442 clone

I think that the issue here is the fact that he is running a 403, which had ~83 cc. combustion chamber volume and switched to the '71 7(A) heads, which are ~64 cc. That will definitely bump the compression up, depending on the head gasket thickness and if the heads have been milled. Do a...

    Compression Ratio for 425 Engine

It should have the big valves. I also corrected my earlier post (#4) to say that " the 2-bbls didn't come with big valve heads". Sorry for the mix-up.

    Compression Ratio for 425 Engine

I believe that only the 442 and Toronado had the big valves.

    Compression Ratio for 425 Engine

I'm pretty sure that they didn't make any 2-bbl 425s with the ultra high compression pistons, as it was more of a performance option. That being said, Olds did build some "Turnpike Cruiser" models from '68-'70. These were ultra high compression, 2-bbl equipped A-body cars. They were geared...
