    74 455 engine ID decoding

Hello. I have a 74 455 Olds in my 79 Trans Am that I am rebuilding. It replaced the 403 in 83, by a previous owner, so I don't know which car it came from. It has two numbers stamped on the pad. The top number is 34M220629. The bottom number is 34F158993. Anyone know the info on the codes...

    455 Valley pan

What is the consensus on the need for the valley pan on a 455 with a non-egr intake with the exhaust crossover blocked? Cast iron intake and heads. Flat tappet cam.

    A 455 Olds story.

Guess the big blocks were more for moving barges, than "speed contests". Lol! My Grandfather was an Olds man. He always drove a 98, which was pretty impressive, even for it's size. My Grandmother had a Delmont 88, and later a Delta 88. Both 455s. They were REALLY impressive to a teenager who...

    A 455 Olds story.

I followed the Lordstown closing. It was sad, to say the least. I hoped they would get a new product out of the last contract, but didn't. My plant closed about 3 years after I retired. It was the GM Powertrain Willow Run plant. We had a high of 14,000 workers in '78 down to 3,500 in '76 when I...

    A 455 Olds story.

Hello to all the members on here. Although I have never owned an Olds, I have had a couple of hot rods with Olds power. My first car, at age 14, was a '47 Ford with a '57 J2. It left a lasting impression, to say the least. I am currently restoring a '79 Trans Am, originally a 403, now with a '74...

    455 G head project

You can pump a lot of money into rebuilding iron heads. You might want to talk to cutlassefi, Mark or "BERNARD" Mondello about a set of ProComp aluminium heads. Your cost will be similar and you'll save weight. Stay away from the other Mondello's. Thanks for the helpful info. I was actually...

    455 G head project

Hello everyone. I have a '79 Trans Am that has had the 403 replaced with a '74 455. I am getting a nice set of G heads ready for when I freshen up the motor, replacing the J heads. G heads are from '71, and I am having a difficult time finding correct valves, unless I want to go with Manley...
