So I sent my power steering pump back to the rebuilders wore down and broke a second belt. I kept loosing the power assist and the belt would squeal.Going to try to get the new carpet in while the car down with out the pump.
yea I believe everything is good the belt that broke was old and not sure how many miles. I definitely should have Gotten a replacement when I got the new longer alternator belt wasn’t thinking straight that day. So I just got back from picking up the new belt. Gonna go install it and take it...
Also another thing a had to do was switch over to a floor shift because the new headers were in the way of the column shift. I really wanted to keep the column shift tI maintain the sleeper look but the way this thing idles with the cam lope I won’t be fooling anyone so I went with the hurst...
Ok so it runs and drives but I haven’t made it more than a 1/2 mile so far. Took it out for the maiden voyage and I remembered I had taken off the front license plate so I said I better go back to put it on. So while making the u turn right down the road from the house the power steering belt...
Yes I thought about the flow thru top air cleaner K&N. I will probably see if my son can fit up in front of the engine with the fan and shroud out to measure the clearance. I’ll probably stuck with the Holley. And I also plan on eventually setting up an A/F meter/gauge to make sure the Holley is...
The ports were nice on mine. They fit much nicer than the last set I had on the 403. These are obviously specific for big block in a G body. I haven’t had to finesse them with a hammer Either. Unlike the last set
I had to modify the lower alternator bracket. I think it’s a perfect example of the big block being taller. After that I’ve been painting the rest of the accessory brackets. And trying to avoid the humidity outside. Not used to humidity in New Hampshire. I also decided to replace most of the...
So the engine was built and Dynoed and came home with a Holley 870 street avenger 4150 with vacuum secondary’s. Every carburetor car I’ve owned has been a Quadrajet so I had thought I might go back to that. I can Tune and take apart Quadrajets in my sleep. Never worked on Holleys. I might also...
Yes the fit is actually amazingly good nicest headers I’ve ever had. The tubes are 1 7/8” the Fit is better in person I feel the picture makes it look closer in some spots than it actually is.
Going back to your posi suggestion I had kind of figured the 7 1/2” 10 bolt wouldn’t stand up to big block tourqe So I had planned to buy a new 12 bolt from one of the companies that make them. But I’ve never upgraded a 7.5 either. So maybe it would be ok with proper upgrades.
More progress over the past week. Fuel system almost finished. I have to plumb from the regulator to the carb. Got the engine, headers and some of the accessory drive installed.
Some more progress today. Got the new tank put together. With this tanks brand tank you have to cut the gauge sender to the correct height for your tank and set the fuel pump to the correct height. Then we made up the An hoses for pressure and return line. Also had to change the ends on the...
It is an old GM for 2 series gears. If you look you can see there is a spacer between the ring gear and the posi unit. Anyway I bought it off eBay back in 07 I think when I had my 79 cutlass had in there then saved it swapped it in this car. I have seen they sell clutch kits for the 8.5” ten...
Minor progress removed the old gas tank. And serviced the rear end while we have no tank in the way. I don’t think the posi unit has much life left it based the amount of clutch material that was in the bottom of the case. Not surprised based on the beating I put it thru over 9 years plenty of...
Got it in the garage. So I’m going with an electric fuel pump And tanks inc tank and the walbro pump they sell. Also changing the tourqe converter Which is matched to the cam in the new 468. 2800 stall. Not planning much if any track racing definitely a streetcar.
Thanks I think I joined the old forum in 07 and wasn’t around much towards the end only because I hadn’t been doing much work on the cutlass. Also I firmly believe in keeping my GM cars with there proper Engine families.
